Storage Unit Auction Hunters, Come on Down!

It’s Throwback Thursday, once again, and I was thinking about the evolution of day time game shows. I know for me, I may have exaggerated just how under the weather I was back in elementary school simply to catch The Price is Right around 11am. Even at 11 years old, I was always testing out new techniques to raise the mercury in that thermometer a few extra degrees or get my hands nice and clammy. Thanks, Ferris Bueller. Nowadays, scoping …

Dave Hester Scores Victory in Court!

The court battle between Dave Hester versus A&E and Original Productions continues to move forward. There have been victories and defeats on both sides of the aisle and there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight! Today, Hester scored a victory on one front, and can now move forward with the wrongful termination portion of his multi-pronged lawsuit against the network and production company.  LA Superior Court, Judge Michael Johnson rejected the network’s attempt to dismiss the wrongful termination aspect of the …

Dave Hester Hosting Large Antique Auction

If you’re a fan of the Hit Television Show, Storage Wars, you’re familiar with Dave Hester and his branded “YUUUP!” Empire. Dave was a core member of the Storage Wars cast since the show first hit the air waves. In the past year, Hester was dismissed from the show and has been involved in a messy legal battle with both A&E Network and Original Productions, the company responsible for producing the show for the network. The show has continued to …

Storage Wars: New York is Back!

Season 2 of Storage Wars: New York recently kicked off and I’m bringing you a recap on the premiere episode. Dave Hester Ordered to Pay Legal Fees to A&E and Original Productions!

A verdict has been reached in the tedious legal battle between Dave Hester and  A&E and Original Productions, the company who produces Storage Wars. In December, Hester was fired from Storage Wars, and sued A&E and the producers of the show for wrongful termination. Hester alleged that the show was staged to a large extent, and that lockers were “salted” with merchandise prior to filming for the purposes of the show. Hester claimed that upon complaining and refusing to participate …

Celebrity Storage Lockers in the News

(Update) Our initial guess was right, Nabila Harris has announced that she was indeed the lucky purchaser of the unit, paying just under 3K for the contents! As a country, we are notoriously preoccupied with celebrity culture. From the gossip rags at the grocery store checkout, to an entire cable network (E!) being dedicated to bringing us up to the minute celebrity information 24/7, we love absorbing celebrity information. We want to know if Brad and Angelina are adopting more …

Remembering Mark Balelo

As most of you have probably heard by now, Mark Balelo of Storage Wars passed away over the weekend and was found on Monday. Sure he liked to annoyingly up bid everybody and once made the unfortunate mistake of valuing a worthless Nintendo as being worth over $13,000. But the man did have a penchant for snazzy fashion ensembles that I for one, will greatly miss. We reported the news to you yesterday afternoon via Facebook and other social media, …

Storage Wars and the City

New Year, New Storage Wars After the hubbub of the holidays, I started the New Year right on Tuesday, catching the premiere of Storage Wars: New York. The show has all the trademarks we’ve come to love from the parent show, but has its own distinct New York personality. The first two episodes titled, ‘Beg, Borough or Steal’ and ‘Lady Luck Comes to Harlem’ aired back to back. The Cast   For starters, can we talk about the cast? A&E …

Customer Profile: LadyLocks58

Today I had a nice chat with one of our subscribers, a woman named Fran Kass—also known as Ladylocks58. I discovered Fran after she left us a great comment on Storage Unit Auction List’s Facebook. With a name as cool as LadyLocks58, I knew I had to find out more about her. I’m glad I did! Fran is part blogger, part storage hunter, and all kinds of awesome. She’s bold, quick witted, and has a great sense of humor—three things …

Interview with an Auctioneer: Daryl Bagwell

I had the opportunity to chat with a real live, 100% genuine auctioneer who lives and plays at The Bagwell & Associates Auction Company in Fletcher, North Carolina–just 20 minutes shy of the Storage Unit Auction List headquarters in Asheville. Meet Daryl Bagwell—everything you’d expect from an auctioneer—friendly, talkative, and a great sense of humor. Mr. Bagwell was kind enough to give me a behind the scenes look of what it’s really like to be an auctioneer. The Beginning of …

Profit for Pez: Darrell Sheet’s Find and Why They’re a Good Investment

I hate to say it, but I think Darryl Sheets is starting to grow on me.  Sure, maybe it’s more like a rash that crops up after a few weeks of roughing it in the rain forest, but nonetheless, I think “The Gambler” has quickly become my favorite “Storage Wars” personality. In a recent episode, Sheets lived up to his name and gambled on a few storage lockers, totaling $3,000.  In one of them, he discovered a box of vintage …

David Hester’s Hunter Heroism? Let the Debate Begin!

I will never grow tired of the phenomenon of television making overnight celebrities out of people.  If any of the Storage Wars stars have caused anything of a stir on the interweb, then it’s the notoriously loved/hated David Hester.  There is seemingly no reason that an owner of a consignment shop and storage auction junkie should be on par with professional athletes or film makers, but, it is what it is.   However, the most interesting thing about Hester’s stardom …

Meet Barry Bailiff: Mover, Shaker, and Storage Unit Taker

Barry Bailiff is not the kind of guy to keep people locked behind bars, as his name might imply. Instead, he focuses his energies on what’s behind lockers. He has maintained a subscription to StorageUnitAuctionList.com despite leaving his family in a wintery world of work in Wisconsin for a transfer to the beautiful summers of Beaufort, South Carolina, and has been enjoying a revelation of storage hunting success in his new home that he might never have thought possible. I …

It’s Called “Self” Storage for a Reason: A Response to an Auction Basher

Well, we know there are naysayers out there who love to tear down the storage auction profession based on out-of-touch judgments.  Here’s a quick news story of that caliber I ran across recently that I will gladly take a moment to rebut without remorse. The Scathing Article The article reads as follows: “With respect to your article “Trash or treasure? Think quick, bidders,’’ March 25, might I add the following comment? As a humanitarian, I was repulsed to know there’s …

2 Uplifting Storage Units Chocked with German Gear

If you read yesterday’s blog, you would have read a deconstruction of a “Storage Wars: Texas” episode, where seemingly out of place items were magically discovered in all three hunter’s newly acquired units.  Hopefully, you learned a few things in the process of reading my intentionally caustic episode review, and maybe even gotten a few laughs. Yet, I can’t help but have the wool plucked from my eyes after reading so many up to date, interesting treasure stories today.  Stories …
