What to Bring When Attending a Yard Sale

19507259391_b932265f2f_zYard sales can yield some amazing, high-dollar finds. It's not uncommon for buyers to find vintage furniture, musical instruments, sports memorabilia and other collectibles at rock-bottom prices, reselling them later for a profit. But as with most buy-sell ventures, it's important for buyers to come prepared. Today we're going to reveal some essential items that every buyer should bring when attending a yard sale.

Truck or Van

Why do you need a truck or van when attending a yard sale? Well, even if you don't intend to purchase any large items, you may come across a deal that's just to good to pass up, in which case you'll need a suitable method of transportation. You won't be able to squeeze an antique dresser or chest of drawers into the backseat of your sedan, but you can place it in the bed of a pickup truck. Just to be on the safe side, it's recommended that you take a truck or van when attending yard sales.

A Friend

You may also want to recruit a friend or family member for your yard sale excursions. If you buy a large, heavy item, having a friend with you will make loading and transporting it just a little bit easier. Most people jump at the opportunity to attend a yard sale, because they may find something to buy for themselves as well. Of course, you can always ask the person who is hosting the yard sale to lend a hand, but he or she could be busy attending to other shoppers.

Cash

I know this probably sounds like common sense to most seasoned yard sale buyers, but it's still worth mentioning that you should bring cash, not your checkbook, when attending yard sales. While I'm sure there are exceptions to this rule, every yard sale that I've come across has only accepted cash.  So just to be on the safe side, bring cash and leave your checkbook and credit cards at home.

Smartphone

Last but not least, you should also bring a smartphone when attending yard sales. If you see an item that "could" be of value, perform a quick search on Google or eBay to see what it's going for. Having a smartphone will allow you to perform on-the-spot price checking, which can prove invaluable in turning a profit.
